2025/26 Auditions Richmond Youth Concert Band

Audition Dates: June 9 & 16 from 7-9 PM

Students who will be in high school for the 2025/26 school year, have prior music training, and play a concert band instrument may audition for the Richmond Elementary Honour Band.

Audition Requirements: Prepare B flat, E flat, and F concert scales, 12-16 measures of a piece of music of your choice (should show what you do well), clapping a short rhythm and playing a short assigned melody. Auditions will be 10 minutes in length. 

 
You will be informed of your audition time by June 5. Students will be notified by June 23rd whether they have made the Band. Weekly rehearsals are on Mondays, from 7-9 pm, from September to May. There will also be 3 concerts, and other planned events throughout the year to be announced in September.

Richmond Youth Concert Band

The Richmond Youth Concert Band (RYCB), based in Richmond, British Columbia, has been providing outstanding music education and performance opportunities since 1978. Comprised of auditioned secondary school students from across the city, the RYCB is dedicated to fostering musical growth and excellence in a supportive ensemble setting at the direction of Campbell McLeod, and Richmond based educator and long time member of the RYCB. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., running from September through May (excluding school closures and statutory holidays). Open auditions for new members are held in early June.

The RYCB is proud to sponsor the Richmond Elementary Honour Band (REHB), which invites Grade 7 students enrolled in school music programs to audition and gain valuable ensemble experience. The Richmond Youth Concert Band Association, made up of parents and guardians of band members, plays an essential role in supporting the program through fundraising and logistical assistance.
